Searching this in the UK turns up marketplace listings, a pharmacy category, a handful of specialist brands and a lot of imported packaging. They are not the same kind of thing, and the differences are worth ten minutes before you order.

The short answer: you can buy a cosmetic topical preparation in the UK without a prescription, from a specialist brand, a marketplace or a studio. What separates them is whether the seller can tell you who assessed the product, what is in it, and which UK company stands behind it.

The four routes, and what each one gets you

• A UK specialist brand. Sells one category and knows it. You should be able to find the company, the ingredients and the safety assessment without hunting. The Senseless range is here.

• A pharmacy. A different regulatory category — pharmacy products are medicines, with their own documentation and their own route. If that is what you need, a pharmacist is the right person to ask.
• Your studio. Some sell or supply their own. If yours does, that is the simplest answer available and it removes the conversation entirely.

What to check before you order

Five things, and all five should take under a minute to find on a page that has nothing to hide:
